Mr. Josh Thompson is the principal at Jefferson Elementary. Previously serving as Assistant Principal at Soaring Heights Elementary from 2023-2025, Thompson has been an educator in Joplin Schools since 2016. He has held positions teaching English Language Arts and Physical Education at East Middle School, and served on the building’s Leadership Team. He was also head coach of the boys and girls soccer teams at Joplin High School from 2018-2023.  

Thompson earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Missouri Southern State University, followed by a Master of Science in Educational Administration, also from Missouri Southern State University.

“Mr. Thompson has proven himself to be a hardworking administrator who is organized, but flexible to meet the needs of students and staff,” said Joplin Schools superintendent Dr. Kerry Sachetta. “His interest in collaborating on solutions with staff, for students, will serve him well at Jefferson Elementary. He has a good understanding of quality systems for improvement, and we look forward to his ability to build relationships with the staff at Jefferson to continue the cycle of improvement for our students.”
